Position Summary

The Staff Accountant maintains and controls the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. This position provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts; preparing financial statements.

Position Responsibilities

Financial Statements

  • Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and departments
  • Prepares and maintains various accrual, prepaid and allowance schedules on a monthly basis
  • Maintains the Fixed Asset and associated depreciation schedules while insuring proper recording of new purchases and disposals
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current
  • Maintains, updates and files sales tax and gross receipts tax filings as required by state, county, and city
  • Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as needed
  • Provide monthly detail to the Director of Finance for General Ledger entries to maintain purchase order processing system.


  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information
  • Prepares and uploads operational results into accounting system on a daily and monthly basis; verify balances in general ledger 
  • Reviews Accounts Payable entries prior to posting
  • Reviews and creates 1099 filings annually
  • Reviews and prepares personal property tax fillings as due
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts


  • Assists with the tracking and maintaining company insurance policies
  • Maintains GL accounts
  • Reconciles credit card activity

Other Duties

  • Will be expected to perform any and all related duties as assigned by manager


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in finance, business or accounting, or an associate’s degree in accounting with comparable work experience


Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data
  • Proficient with Microsoft office including Word and Excel
  • Analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Ability to meet deadlines

License and Certification Requirements

A valid Driver’s license


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office environment or from home office. Travel to dental offices in division. Position requires up to 10% travel including overnight.
